Elections in authoritarian regimes play a significant role in maintaining the regime. However, the system of mobilization of votes does not always work perfectly. The election results of the last gubernatorial elections in the Russian Federation showed that even in a country with a high state capacity, political machines may not work properly. The task is to examine under what circumstances such a malfunction can occur, and to find out whether the detected information can serve for a predictive analysis of future gubernatorial elections. The method of achieving this is a study of the regions that participated in the recent election of governors, and further comparative analysis of the regions where the candidates from the dominant party won, and the regions where they were defeated.
