The thesis is devoted to the activities of the European Union as a single political actor in matters of migration policy and overcoming the challenges of the migration crisis of 2015-2018. Questions are considered: how was the interaction between the EU government and national states in the field of migration policy in the conditions of the European migrant crisis 2015-2018 achieved? How might the policy effectiveness be estimated? We relied on institutionalism, intergovernmental and supranational approaches as the main theoretical concepts. In addition we use the following research methods: analysis of the scientific literature and the regulatory documents, comparison method, the method of secondary data analysis. As a result of the study, we came to the conclusion that, on the one hand, the supranational migration policy brought certain results in solving the problems of the EU migrant crisis, but on the other hand, it revealed deep-seated contradictions among the member countries, that differ not only in socio-economic and political situation, but also have various goals of joining the organization and being in it. Taking into account all the factors of evaluating the policy effectiveness, we came to the conclusion that the result of the current policy is “partial effective”. Keywords: EU, migration, migrants, refugees, migration policy, policy effectiveness, “partial effectiveness”.
