The Effect of the Project 5-100 in the Development of TPU

The dissertation examines the process of integration of Tomsk Polytechnic University into a network of world universities under the influence of the state program to increase competitiveness among world leaders. To identify factors affecting the dynamics of the TPU position in the ratings, an analysis of the university development roadmaps was carried out based on the main criteria of one of the most frequently used ratings of world QS universities. The paper also discusses the main directions of development of education and science, analyzes the selection criteria for universities of project participants 5-100, gives the experience of other countries in introducing similar projects to increase the competitiveness of their universities. The government funding program for Chinese universities has been examined in detail, forming an understanding of the number of funds spent by the state on its way to the top 100 universities in the world. Interim results of the implementation of the 5-100 program and the positions taken by participating universities are presented. In the research part of the work, the impact of project 5-100 on the development of Tomsk Polytechnic University is examined. A historical reference is given on the appointment of TPU and its status as an isolated university until 2010. The transformation of the TPU structure in the process of implementing the 5-100 project is considered. Analysis of TPU roadmaps for the entire period of participation in the 5-100 project and the impact of decisions on positions in the QS rating are presented. The internal challenges of the university arising in the implementation of the development program and the prospects for further development of the university in the project 5-100 are considered.
