Translation Strategy ”Latin Elements in Russian-language Texts”: pros and cons

This paper studies examples of using the method of transfer of Latin elements to the Russian-language texts. Cases for study are taken from Kommersant periodical. The author analyzes examples of the use of transplanted elements and offers alternative approaches to their translation. The basis of these alternative approaches is the instruction for transformation of proper names elaborated through the analysis of theoretical works. Giving the recommendations for translation, the author is guided by the principle of the potential translatability of most Latin elements through the use of such methods as tracing, transliteration and transcription. Additionally, the paper lists cases in which the author considers the use of the transfer method rational and explains it. This research considers the problems of a translation strategy choice and is designed for specialists in the field of translation studies.
