Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2020

Choosing this topic, the author wanted to study more deeply how a person creates an image of himself. Since the main topic of the WRC is "Virtual model for the school of Design", the author needed to learn the history of the development of the mannequin from a simple object to a character. Explore as an inanimate object-can attract more attention than a real model. To do this, the author decided to study all the branches in which dummies are used, focusing in more detail on art and fashion, because anatomical, military and test dummies did not go beyond the perception of them as an object. The author begins his research with a mannequin of the artist, who turns from an invisible assistant into a hero of paintings. A similar development is observed in the fashion industry, where in different periods of history, the mannequin attracts more attention than the clothes hanging on it. Even such important photographers as man ray, Bresson, Belmer saw in this inanimate likeness of a person, something more than just an object, making him the hero of entire series of photos. The author concludes his research with a section of contemporary art, where the mannequin is usually the hero of provocative installations. An ordinary object-a mannequin, which people do not notice in everyday life, turned out to be an interesting object for research. Plastic lifeless likeness of a person, in different eras, was able to go beyond its usual purpose. Summing up, we can say that this work was useful for the author. After studying the history of the mannequin, you can start creating your own 3D model.
