Around the world, women face various restrictions and prohibitions. A number of factors prevent women from realizing their full potential, which could be realized if there were no such restrictions. The reason for this is not only the actions of the employer that discriminate against women but also the actions of the state itself, which establishes laws that infringe women's rights or encourages behavior that puts women in a less favorable position than men. The relevance of this topic is connected with the intention of the world community to improve the legal status of women in the business world. Only 6 countries in the world provide equal rights for women and men, while in 187 countries women are not provided with the necessary rights. International organizations emphasize on the improvement of the current situation. The ILO creates conventions and recommendations protecting women's rights. The World Bank provides us with reports reflecting the real situation of women in labor relations in all countries of the world. This helps to evaluate the current situation and identify factors that impede the realization of women's potential in work so that the policy regarding the work of women can be changed. Russia is not among the countries that provide equal rights to men and women. The level of equality in the Russian Federation is even lower than average in the world. Our country is behind most prosperous countries. Russian labor legislation is outdated, it does not meet modern realities. Therefore, it is very important to develop measures to improve the status of women now, because the process of their implementation will take many years. The work examines the work of such researchers as S.V. Polenina, D.A. Sablina, E.V. Sychenko, A.M. Lushnikova, S.L. Rabinovich-Zakharin, O.V. Smirnov, V.I. Mironov, D.K. Bekyashev, N.L. Lyutov, Karavanov A.A., Ustinov I.Yu. The study is based on numerous statistics and court decisions reflecting the real legal status of women in Russia and in the world, as well as an analysis of modern labor legislation. The problems that women face in all countries of the world and in Russia are examined, and ways to solve them are also proposed.
