10 years ago, going on holidays people took the guidebooks with them. Nowadays all they need in journey is a smartphone and wi-fi. Websites and mobile apps have made trips more convenient, better understood and more diverse. Furthermore, some of them ruin the borders between the tourists and the local citizens. Thanks to the guides, which are posted on the studied websites, travelers have the opportunity take a look at the city with the locals eyes. Consequently, the modern web-services create the new format of the travel. This paper will focus on the key features of the modern travel websites. The key features which distinguish them from centuries past ‘travelogues’ and which make trips more attractive to a wide range of people. . The relevance of the research due to the increasing popularity of travel blogs and travel, in particular. It is necessary to find out how the new formats of the websites and mobile apps promote love for the exploring new cities and countries. Beyond that, it is vital to understand why the sites such as onthegrid.city and spottedbylocals.com inspire more trust than ordinary guidebooks and travel shows. It is also important to emphasize that travel keeps getting more accessible every year. It used to be thought that trip abroad is a luxury. Nowadays traveling overseas is available even for students. Obviously, the modern websites and mobile apps contributed to this because of their promotional function.
