Profiling of Serial Killers

This paper focuses on the system of methods of criminal profiling of socio-demographic and psychological characteristics of serial killers during their identification and search. The main purpose of this work is to study the possibility and effectiveness of profiling methods to serial murders. To achieve this goal, the following objectives are set in this paper. First, to examine the existing theoretical basis for profiling. Secondly, to identify the main methods of creating a profile of the offender, as well as to determine their pros and cons. Further, to scrutinize the theoretical problems of such crimes as mass murder, to delimit them from other categories and to determine that highlighting of this issue of special significance not only in the academic environment but also in practice. Finally, to research the international practice of using this method and to identify the main strengths and weaknesses. These findings will contribute to the development of possible ways to employ and improve these methods in the activities of law enforcement agencies. To achieve this goal, the author of the work uses the methods of historical and system analysis, literature analysis, synthesis, comparison and prognostication. The practical significance of the thesis is determined, firstly, by the possible use of systematized modern approaches to profiling in the educational process as part of the development of disciplines; secondly, this study is the basis for further development on the topic of profiling serial killers in the scientific field; thirdly, the practical conclusions described in the bachelor's work can be applied in law enforcement. The set goals and objectives were achieved within the framework of this work and have become the basis for the conclusions made in the research.
