The proposed research is aimed to examine the experience of Brazil in realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015. The uniqueness of the Brazilian experience in achieving the SDGs is determined by the fact that the country leads a cohort of developing countries that face difficulties in maintaining a balance between accelerated economic growth and environmental sustainability. For this purpose, we identified key features of adapting the SDGs to the national policy of Brazil as well as main measures taken by Brazil to implement these goals. Using a SWOT analysis, we determined the internal and external factors impeding and facilitating the implementation of the SDGs in the country. The results of this paper may provide a better understanding of Brazil’s approach to sustainable development and become a theoretical base for further research.
