The present research work peruses documentary films produced by the Russian journalist Yuri Dud in order to reveal specific features of his auteur style if one exists. The paper enriches knowledge in the research field of media studies. The fact of the appearance of such content poses many questions to media researchers. For example, is it worth perceiving these projects as documentaries in the sense in which theorists such as John Grierson, Dziga Vertov, and Bill Nichols defined them? The research arrives at the elucidation, why those works cannot be referred to ‘documentary films’ but may be seen as non-fiction projects of citizen journalism. The research has practical value for those, who want to understand, how to create a powerful film and use it to convey socially important ideas.
