The protection of the information space is increasingly attracting the attention of experts, and also occupies an important place in the national security strategies of many countries. Spain is one of the countries with a huge range of threats, both external and internal, of which the information space is always a part. However, despite the fact that the information space today occupies an important place and causes public concern, and Spain, as one of the largest countries in the European Union, pays great attention to developing a strategy for protecting this space – this topic remains understudied. The present study addresses this gap by identifying the place of protection information in Spain’s national security policy and makes the prediction of its development on the basis of bilateral agreements, statistics and implemented cybersecurity strategy. Different qualitative methods, such as content and comparative analysis as well as case study examination, will be applied. Our preliminary findings seem to support the hypothesis that despite the fact that armed conflicts are considered to be the most important aspect of Spain's national security strategy, in fact, at the moment and in the future, cybercrime is much more dangerous and the protection of the information space take precedence. The obtained results may contribute to the literature on information protection strategies in Spain and all around the world and be useful for policy makers in terms of building an efficient policy and national security strategy.
