Recently the issue of historical memory started to gain more attention in international relations studies. This problem tends to open both global and domestic debate in such countries as Spain, Argentina and Chile that suffered through dictatorships over the last century. Despite the existence of previous research on historical memory policy in transitional societies, there have been little findings on the impact which it could have on world politics. This study presents the first attempt to answer the question of how the national models of overcoming the traumatic past affect the relations between Spain, Chile and Argentina. Comparative analysis was used to identify differences in historical memory policy toward Francoism, the «National Reorganization Process» and the dictatorship of A. Pinochet. Then through multiple case studies of the «Pinochet case» and the "Argentinian Complaint», the research question was answered. The results of this research might contribute to a better understanding of the connection between memory studies and international relations.
