The armed conflict in Afghanistan is the key security issue to the international community, which is trying to improve the situation in the country. However, previous studies on participation of the foreign countries in resolving this conflict have overlooked the German action in the Afghan mission. Previous approaches have been restricted to the impact of the mission on German security policy. Our study’s aim is to find out what factors were determinative for the German government in justifying the participation of the armed forces in Afghanistan mission. The qualitative content analysis will be used to point out the present foreign policy discourse in Germany. The data will be obtained from official governmental cites. A study such as this one, can extend the line of research both as on the armed conflict in Afghanistan, as well as on the German foreign policy objectives and principles. Also, our research might provide a better understanding of the positions and goals of Germany in the international area. Keywords: Afghanistan, armed conflict in Afghanistan, German foreign policy, Bundeswehr missions
