This graduate qualification paper is dedicated to the study of the level of crime in Russia, which is too high for a developed country. An array of data concerning 85 subjects of the Russian Federation for 2014-2018, taken from official sources of publicly available state statistics, has been compiled for further analysis. Modelling of the regional crime rate was carried out using econometric methods, taking into account the panel structure of the data, as it is the most appropriate for the investigation of such samples. The data was processed using the statistical packages RStudio and Stata. As a result of the research, the most significant indicators affecting the crime rate in Russia were identified. Based on the conducted tests, the model with the best descriptive properties corresponding to the purpose of the study was identified, limitations were found, and subsequent recommendations were given.
