The Challenge to Motivate in Preserving Historical and Cultural Heritage Through Transmedia Projects

The graduation paper enriches the knowledge in the research field of media studies. The investigation is intended to examine the policy of the preservation of architectural heritage in the digital era using transmedia technologies. The methodology of the paper contains the following tools: the quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis and empirical analysis. The first part of the study is dedicated to the historical framework of the concept of preservation of architectural heritage. Secondly, the research is referred to essential principles of transmedia project formulated by Henry Jenkins. Then digital technologies used for the creation of new narratives that establish connections between past and existing identities are researched. The third part of the project proposal is linked to applying the Gambarato’s analytical model to analyze the specifics of transmedia projects in the field of architectural heritage. Furthermore, this analysis is based on the empirical material presented in three particular transmedia projects performed in Tomsk, Ekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod. To conclude, the research offers opportunities for further investigation for the elaboration of a truer model of transmedia project design aimed at increasing the influence on the process of preserving architectural heritage. Moreover, the knowledge of core principles of transmedia project expands the scope of projects in the cultural industries.
