Chinese Foreign Direct Investment in the Framework of "One Belt, One Road"

Since the beginning of China's strategy to "Going global", foreign direct investment has begun to play an important role as an instrument of China's diplomatic strategy. In particular, since the launch of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative in 2013, China's FDI has undergone rapid development linked to the evolution of China's diplomatic strategy in the OBOR. This paper analyses China's investment flows by region, country and industry. It also explores the benefits and risks of Chinese FDI in the OBOR to assess the direction of China's foreign strategy. The influence of the coronavirus epidemic on China's future investment along the OBOR is also analyzed.
