Media development is an ongoing process. Especially because of technological progress. Technologies make it possible to diversify the choice of formats. The sites are becoming more accessible for distribution and more convenient for users. The audience is changing media behavior. Under the new preferences, large media market players also have to adapt. The relevance of the study. The social networks open up new experimental formats that change the concept of media consumption. New formats require the development of additional skills. Media experts and journalists who worked differently ten years ago face the choice of changing their established formats or looking for new ones. The ability to predict such a change for years to come would help solve this problem. The novelty of the study — is the analysis of recent changes in the field of media related to the emergence of new formats and algorithms for personal selection of material. The research problem includes the study of new tools of journalism. A comprehensive analysis of social networks, traditional media, determination of their potential require an interdisciplinary approach and study of works in the field of social philosophy, sociology of communication and journalism. The object of this study is traditional media. The subject of the study is the impact of social networks on traditional media. The hypothesis of the work is that social networks are gradually crowding out traditional media from the information space. The purpose of this work is to analyze the convergence of traditional media and social networks, drawing on the experience of Russian and Western experts and theorists, in order to find out whether social networks really push traditional media out of the information space. To disclose the goal, the author of the work conducted a study using expert interviews. In the first chapter of the work, the author reveals basic concepts and terms related to the phenomena of social networks, content sites, media and communication, to trace the historical development of these phenomena. The second chapter consists of an analysis of the results of theoretical and empirical studies.
