Media Projects of 2019 on the Tragedy in Beslan as a Historical Source for Cultural Memory Research

The graduation paper is intended to lead to better estimates of the memory studies research field. This framework offers opportunities for the profound analysis of media projects of 2019 on the tragedy in Beslan. The investigation deals with a wide range of questions concerning the dichotomy of history and memory, cultural memory development and a role of public stories in the field of memory studies. The methodology employed in the research includes the following tools: the narrative analysis, the comparative method, as well as the methods of generalization and classification. The first part of the research is aimed at studying the problematics of memory studies concepts. The next stage is dedicated to the consideration of the method of narrative analysis within the memory studies framework. In the third part, the study applies the narrative approach for media projects analysis and denotes core narratives in the chosen media projects on the tragedy in Beslan. Finally, the paper attempts to examine key narratives through the lens of media studies. Furthermore, the present research elucidates the issue of the incomplete stage of the cultural memory in the case of Beslan. Therefore, the study enriches the knowledge in the practical emphasis of memory studies. In addition, it brings about improvements in the understanding of the peculiarities of the cultural memory development in the case of Beslan, that would lead to further investigations.
