The paper in question focuses on the issues of intertextuality in The Name of the Rose and the significance of cultural strata integrated into the novel. The research encompasses the analyses of textual material derived from various novels, in particular: The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe, The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe, Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis and The Devil’s Elixirs by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann. Thereafter, the paper performed an examination of The Name of the Rose with regard to the topic of intersectionality of the tradition of gothic and detective novels.
