This work is devoted to understanding the events of the 1960s, primarily in May 1968, in cinema. The events of May 1968 are an important element in the history of both France and the whole Wester society. They became the most important sociocultural phenomenon, which meant a transition to a new level of development. The events of May became a symbol of the collapse or, at least, the crisis of the “consumer society”. The 1968 revolution ended 52 years ago, however, it is a hot topic to this day. The worldview of rebel students was reflected in the writings of existential philosophers, in the works of contemporary artists, as well as in the cinema of the French New Wave. The Student Revolution is an inspiration to many directors of both the twentieth century and the twenty-first. In accordance with the ideas embodied in the philosophy of existentialism, students raised questions about personal freedom, the alienation of the individual in society, challenged the existing familiar views on the social structure. Over the course of fifty years, there has been a constant change in assessments and interpretation of events. In this regard, the study of the problem of "May 1968" in France is of both scientific and political importance.
