Modern economic systems are actively developing against the backdrop of scientific and technological progress. This leads to the transformation of international trade, when the process of production of goods and services is concentrated not in one state, but in several at once. This phenomenon is called global value chains. Participation in international production processes allows subjects of trade relations to improve the quality of products or services provided, as well as reduce production costs, which is why most countries of the world take active measures to integrate their national enterprises into GVCs. However, often insufficient attention is paid to the development of the knowledge-intensive services sector, which, in turn, is closely linked to value chains. Processes such as customization of consumption and “co-production” lead to a situation where the use of this type of service in the global production chain becomes an important condition for the successful functioning of almost all sectors. In turn, in many states there is a decrease in the quality of services provided due to insufficient infrastructure development, consumer information illiteracy and other factors. Thus, measures taken by countries to develop knowledge-intensive services are not enough to deepen their participation in GVCs. The purpose of this work is to determine the features of the development of the sphere of knowledge-intensive services in the world and their influence on the participation of countries in GVCs, as well as suggest ways to improve policies for the development of knowledge-intensive services.
