Educational Programme: World Economy (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 9

Year of Graduation: 2020

By now, Italy has consolidated different types of renewable energy sources for the promotion of energy security and resistance against climate change. Notwithstanding the fact that applied environmental policies have become more sophisticated, the system of renewable energy generation works below its potential because numerous regional peculiarities are not taken into consideration. Hence, the purpose of this study is to detect regional misbalances in renewable energy generation and give some recommendations, which are likely to reduce productivity losses. For this purpose, we will employ quantitative methods to divide regions into several groups. Then, the regional misbalances will be detected with the help of a Hierarchical Cluster Analysis, which allows to compare regional predilection to generate renewable energy and real level of green energy production. The study will help to understand which regions are able to bring the highest return on investments in renewable energy projects. Furthermore, the results of this research may improve environmental policies in the domain of renewable energy.
