Key Trends of Russian Population Certain Age-related Groups Migration

This paper analyzes spatial patterns of migration in Russia using data on migration profit / loss in Russian regions for 2018. Age categories are grouped according to the stages of the life cycle. We define some classes of regions with similar migration balance models for several age groups and characterize the most typical classes. The results of our analysis show that age patterns of migration are determined by the spatial characteristics of regions, climatic features in the Center-periphery system, and the advantages of the economic situation. We find that the city's population and administrative status are also important factors in migration. The analysis of age-specific migration contributes to our understanding of internal migration factors and allows us to assess the impact of age structure on migration. In large cities and regional centers, migrant flows consist of a younger population, while in the peripheral southern regions, older flows predominate. In most of the regions we analyzed, the migration of young people and adults ‘moves ' in opposite directions. This factor accelerates the impact of migration on the age structure of the population in the areas of destination and origin and significantly affects the current and future demographic parameters of the region, as well as the pattern of settlement and spatial concentration of the population at both the national and regional levels.
