The Analysis of Efficiency of Mobile Applications in English Language Learning

The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the usage of mobile applications as a tool to learn foreign languages. The paper examines blended learning method strategies used in language learning mobile applications. This study aims to measure the effectiveness and impact of such method on FL learners. Sophisticated mobile applications on IOS and Android seek to broaden EFL students’ knowledge of vocabulary. The study reported in this article employed qualitative and quantitative analysis of the effects of the applications use. The results of the research may contribute to the design of learning syllabi at schools and additional language classes for adults. Mobile applications combine various methods of teaching English elements such as the Natural Method, Communicative Method, Audiolingual and Grammar-Translation Methods. Moreover, the high number of applications for language learning mostly use the Lexical Approach elements because it focuses on vocabulary as the base of the language. Six groups of people were created to conduct the experiment. The participants differed in age, gender, social status and level of English. The groups were formed according to the average level of English. The English levels were set according to CEFR standard. As the result, we find out that the use of mobile applications studied in this paper contributes mostly to vocabulary level increase through a combination of innovative approaches to foreign language teaching. The elements of teaching methods’ aspects are involved in the process of learning via applications. The inclusion of mobile applications use in learning process has a profound impact on students’ motivation and level of satisfaction. The use of interactive tasks in applications studied in our research increases learner’s commitment to continue learning and should be used by people who study foreign languages both with teachers and independently.
