Every year indoor positioning systems (IPS) get utilized in more and more contexts. Retailers have drawn their attention to the technology, utilizing its proximity-based capabilities. In commercial sector resource tracking is usually associated with IPS and indoor navigation. But utilizing the technology comes at the cost of installing and professionally calibrating lots of additional hardware, which is rather expensive. The technology's market penetration could be much higher if it was readily available to small businesses and public institutions as well as other organizations with high financial constraints. The main goal of this work is exploring the possibilities of developing an indoor positioning solution while minimizing financial expenses for licenses and infrastructure. The study includes analysis of main positioning technologies and techniques, selection of technology and algorithm for positioning and implementation of a working positioning system prototype on iOS platform that does not utilize any external infrastructure or paid services.
