Soft power as a way to expand the political influence of China: modern stage

The research is devoted to studying the role of political and socio-economic factors in China`s soft power enhancement, and to identifying modern trends of its implementation, which remain insufficiently explored in previous studies. The paper analyzes soft power policy transformation over the period from 2006 to 2020. The first part of summarizes theoretical approaches of Western, Chinese and Russian scholars towards soft power definition and divides Chinese soft power development into two periods. The second part of the research using quantitative and quality content analysis of publications in online media, news broadcasts and media products on digital platforms, reveals ideas and concepts encouraged by the state with the aim to expand Chinese political influence overseas. By content analysis of “Chinese Dream” promotion this paper analyzes Chinese experience of implementing modern soft power policy on global media space.
