Mergers and acquisitions have often been used to achieve high growth rates in all industries. This is especially true for the medical technology industry, since such transactions are a great way to achieve a large market share and become a leader. Among recent trends, the acquisition of non-core assets stands out to gain greater market influence and diversify revenue flows. As a result of this transaction, mergers and acquisitions remain a high-risk strategy that brings good results. The paper explores the benefits and threats of using international mergers and acquisitions to achieve leadership in the global medical technology industry. Based on the analysis of existing literature, as well as on the basis of studying the experience of Medtronic, recommendations for companies regarding the possibility of using mergers and acquisitions in this industry were developed.
