Educational Programme: Economics (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2020

The study aims to identificate the influence of changes in Russian military enlistment, in particular service length reduction in 2008, on probability that young men would get a degree in a university. The difference-in-differences regression model and cluster analysis are used for the issue. Models were constructed based on RLMS HSE data from 2005 to 2018 which is a country-wide questionnaire on social status and health. Based on a hypothesis that many young men apply to a college or university just to avoid the draft, the trend was revealed that less draftees want to get higher education before military service.
