Statistical Analysis and Modelling of Sustainable Energy Sources Use

Student: Korbey Anastasia

Supervisor: Marina Arkhipova

Faculty: Faculty of Economic Sciences

Educational Programme: Economics and Statistics (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2020

The problem of environmental pollution is more pressing than ever. There are several ways to combat this, one of which is to develop the share of renewable energy (RES) in total energy consumption. The aim of the study is to highlight the factors influencing renewable energy consumption, as well as to predict the level of RES consumption in the horizon up to 2023, with a view to determining whether the global sustainable energy goals will be achieved. The work will be organized as follows. The first chapter would define renewable and traditional energy sources, explain the importance of the former and explain the consequences of the intensive use of the latter. The second chapter will consist of a country cluster analysis based on the eco-efficiency index developed by Yale University. The basic premise of the cluster analysis is that countries are divided into a finite number of homogeneous RES development policies and the core environmental and economic indicators of the cluster. The third chapter will identify the factors influencing the level of RES consumption from the dashboard data and predict the level of RES consumption from the time series analysis of the selected clusters.
