The competitiveness of one of the most globalized and dynamic sectors of the national aerospace industry – helicopter industry – is largely determined by a wide range of economic factors specific to each country. Although there has been considerable research on general factors affecting the aircraft industry, none of the studies to date have addressed how the level of competence of the national rotorcraft production varies depending on the country’s economy properties. This paper aims to assess the impact of the country’s economy peculiarities on the competitiveness of its helicopter industry. To achieve this purpose, we will employ a three-circuit MCC (Matrices of Core Competencies) methodology to quantify this impact. Furthermore, a time series regression analysis will be used to identify significant for the helicopter industry macroeconomic indicators and a VAR (vector autoregression) will be employed to forecast these indicators. The findings may allow to form recommendations on the sector’s development policy and to provide a better understanding of the extent, to which country’s economy peculiarities affect the competitiveness of the rotorcraft production branch. Moreover, this paper provides a methodological basis for further research on the competitiveness of the helicopter industry.
