Recently research in the field of national innovation systems (NIS) has been the focus of the attention of international organizations and states. Moreover, in the most advanced countries in the context of innovative development, the corporate sector – from small and medium to large businesses-plays a Central role in the NIS. So, in order to delve into the details of the NIS concept and consider the impact of the corporate sector on it, the paper will study the German innovation system. The paper considers the theoretical and methodological features of the concept of "national innovation system" and the role of the corporate sector in the country's NIS. The study has been applied econometric methods such as a factor analysis: principal component analysis to obtain variables that characterize the input and outputs of the R&D of main actors of NIS, cluster analysis to divide Germany into clusters by the structure of their innovation system in order to compare the effectiveness of the main determinants of NIS, contingency table to identify the most effective regional innovation systems, as well as a correlation analysis of the volume of exports of high-tech products from Germany with the main indicators of the corporate sector in R & d. The conducted econometric analyses allow us to assess which determinant has a key influence on the NIS and is responsible for creating the final result - innovation. In research we confirmed the hypothesis of the work: the German corporate sector has a key impact on the national innovation system. This hypothesis was confirmed both by the analytical part of the work and by the calculation part.
