Pure and Impure Altruism as Determinants of Social Preferences (the Case of Life-saving Programs)

The main aim of the paper is to analyse the factors affecting individuals' social preferences focusing mainly on the effect of pure and impure altruism. The level of the influence will be calculated by the acceptance or refusal of the program and the motivation behind respondents' decisions. By random assign of questionnaire consisting of personal questions, life-saving program descriptions and questions about inner motivation the necessary information will be collected. The main contribution of this paper is the possibility of differentiating influence of pure and impure altruism on social discount rates and social preferences by comparing motivation behind respondents’ answers and their discount rates.
