The banking sector in Russia has been developing rapidly, and new financial technologies constantly appear in the banking services market. Many residents of large Russian cities can no longer imagine day-to-day life without modern banking services. Moreover, in different countries, the level of the banking sector development varies. This study examined the cross-country determinants of banking development. To assess the development of the banking sector in Russia and other countries, a multidimensional index was constructed, which later was used as a dependent variable in the regression analysis. Cluster analysis allowed us to split 150 countries into two groups: with developed and developing banking system. Using ARIMA models, a forecast was made for the dynamics of two indicators of banking activity in Russia: the amount of loans issued to individuals and the profit of deposit organizations before tax
