Startups are fast-growing innovative high-risk enterprises. An invaluable number of startups are created annually, less than 50% of them survive, and even fewer are successfully sold. However, one of the main goals of creating a startup is to maximize profits and successfully exit. The purpose of the work is to identify criteria that influence the choice between the two most common exit strategies: mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and initial public offering (IPO). In the course of the study, we identified the reasons why the entrepreneur makes a decision on a particular exit strategy, identified groups of international startups with similar characteristics and analyzed the trends in decision-making about the strategies. In the work, comparative, statistical, cluster analysis methods were used.
