Japan was one of the three leaders of high-tech countries last year, but this year it took only 21st place, despite the five-year plan put forward in 2016, the purpose of which was in developing high technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. The purpose of this work is to explore reasons for such changes, how new technologies had been developing in the country, and how the Japanese population adopts new technologies, in particular, products with artificial intelligence. Nowadays, there is not many research regarding the attitude of Japanese residents to the use of AI, which is becoming more and more popular in all aspects of everyday life in Japan. Within the topic, there were examined and analyzed works of several authors as well as statistical data, scientific and business articles and governmental and scientific reports. Moreover, an empirical study was conducted in an online format in order to gain more reliable information for this research. An empirical study of 200 respondents revealed the importance of the perceived fee of the new technology for Japanese people. The study showed that the cost of products with AI has a negative effect on the Japanese population in assessing the value of a new technology and, therefore, it prevents the spread of new products with AI in Japan. At the same time Japanese population needs to enjoy the new AI technology and to be sure of its usefulness. Enjoyment and usefulness related to AI directly invest to the intention of people to adopt AI technology in Japan.
