The following work will examine peculiarities of constructing Japanese Image concerning historical past memory and how it is interpreted and portrayed in Russian political discourse on the example of Russian popular media. In the Japanese studies in Russia topics such as Russo-Japanese relations, their origin, development and problems are widely covered; there are a lot of fundamental monographs. As for the image of the Japan, especially historic one, which appeared as a result of socio-cultural interactions between the two countries, it has not been studied enough. This topic is little covered in the Russian historiography, not to mention the foreign. Works relating to Images of "Other" and receptions have recently appeared in the last few decades. This particular study of Image will be done in correlation with historical memory and past that Russia and Japan share. Key words: Japan, Russian-Japanese relations, Image, Other, Japanese war crimes, Kuril Islands dispute.
