In the modern world, sanctions are becoming one of the main tools for the confrontation between states. One of the striking examples of the imposition of sanctions can be considered the sanctions standoff between Russia and the West, which began in 2014. As a result of the sanctions standoff, Russia was forced to change the main directions of domestic and foreign policy. At present, Russia's economic strategy is an object of study for scientists around the world. Opinions of scientists on the effectiveness and results of economic policies pursued by Russia differ. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Russian economic strategy carried out in 2014-2018. The study is based on the work of Russian and foreign scientists and on the basis of data from international agencies. In this work, empirical, analytical and comparative methods were used. A cluster analysis was also carried out to determine the level of effectiveness of Russian economic policy on the example of regions. One of the main tasks in the framework of the study is the need to identify the factors of stability of the economic strategy of Russia during the period of the sanctions confrontation, after which an analysis of the dynamics of changes in economic indicators from 2014-2018 and an assessment of the effectiveness of the economic development strategy for the regions for the period from 2013-2018 are carried out. As a result of the study, the hypothesis that the Russian economic strategy is effective was confirmed.
