This study focuses on the conceptualization of Mamluk socio-political organization in the late 14th century and mid-15th Egypt. It seeks to find a pattern of seemingly intricated relationships between mamluk households and the State itself, while largely drawing on already existing, yet hardly complete theory of Military Patronage State (MPS). Since this theory puts a lot of emphasis on the predominance of the household over the state, private over public, individuals along with the social bonds they create, over formal institutions, the only efficient method for such study seems to be a thorough examination of the selected biographies, belonging to the prominent Mamluk amirs. Among the possible outcomes of this research are introducing the new sources and further developing of the MPS theory, which may be greatly benefiting not only Mamluk Studies but also a whole series of related disciplines. Keywords: Military patronage state, mamluk households, mamluk politics, Egypt, socio-political organization.
