Procrastination as a Cause of Students' Academic Failure in Learning English

This study focuses on analyzing the phenomenon of procrastination as a cause of students’ academic failure in learning a foreign language, specifically English. The main goal of this work is to analyze and emphasize the relationship between procrastination and academic performance of students learning English. The topic of this thesis proved particularly relevant: today’s degree of knowledge relating to the specifics of procrastination and its connection with academic performance is very limited, while at the same time, procrastination is increasingly ranked as a real psychological disease. Numerous studies have been analyzed in the field of cognitive, social and pedagogical psychology in order to identify the main causes, features and types of procrastination, as well as to identify and analyze its relationship with the academic performance of students learning English. To achieve the main goal, an empirical study was conducted using existing psychological questionnaires. The anticipated results of the study, namely: procrastination has a correlation with the academic failure of students learning English, - will help to identify one of the most serious psychological problems of students learning English, and also to determine correlation between procrastination, anxiety and low self-esteem.
