Analyzing FinTech Impact on the Development of the Banking Sector in Russia

At the stage of the fourth technological revolution, the world is undergoing large and significant changes in all society spheres. Particularly quick and noticeable changes are conducted due to the emergence of new technologies and innovative developments that simplify and accelerate the work of many institutions. New technologies are rebuilding the financial services industry. A feature of the Russian fintech industry is a significant concentration of new technological competencies in the banking sector. The development of fintech in this industry is facilitated by the presence of a powerful resource base of large existing players in the market. The topic is relevant because of its absolute novelty, because of the poor knowledge of current realities in terms of the fintech introduction in Russian banking. The goal of this dissertation work was to study the characteristics of fintech in Russian banking sector and to identify the effect of fintech on the banks started to implement it. A sample of 64 Russian banks from 2015 to 2019 years was used. On this basis a regression model with fixed effects was built. The importance of collecting and analyzing big data on the bank’s performance was revealed.
