This paper is devoted to the study of English-Russian localization of the constituents of the lexical-semantic field “Cold weapons” based on the video games in the Medieval setting. The research deals with the methods of translation of language units which name cold weapons in order to create a base of unit translations which belong to the lexical-semantic field “Cold Weapon.” The author emphasizes the difficulties and specific features of translation of military vocabulary and its effect on the quality of video game localization. The research also defines the constituents of the lexical-semantic field “Cold Weapon.” As a result, the most frequently used methods of localization are specified. The paper also reveals errors and inaccuracies made by the translators. The author provides a number of translation solutions to improve the quality of video game localization. This study may be of interest as a reference material for both localization translators and people who use English for specific purposes, such as historians focusing on medieval studies.
