Transformations in gendered scripts and sexual education within the context of sexual revolution in South Korea

Student: Stepura Artem

Supervisor: Nina Grigoreva

Faculty: Saint-Petersburg School of Social Sciences

Educational Programme: Asian and African Studies (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2020

This diploma examines the relationship between the #Metoo movement of 2018 and changes in sex education in the Republic of Korea through neo-Confucian concepts of sexual double standard and chastity ideology. This work explores the socio-cultural understanding of sexual violence, and ways in which cases of sexual crime are represented in the media. It argues that the sex education tendencies occurring at the time of and after the #Metoo prove that there are grounds for changes in the sphere of sexuality, as well as in gender power dynamics.
