Protests, both social and political, have always been an integral part of political science. Therefore, in my research, I intend to consider the specifics of political and social protests in authoritarian regimes, exactly in China and Russia from 2000 to 2019. In addition, the response of authoritarian regimes to social and political protests is also significant, and I also intend to study this issue. I have chosen exactly these two countries and this time-period because of the trend and increase of cases of protests at this time in China and Russia. The first part of my research contains a review of the literature on social and political protests, resilience of authoritarian regimes and the response of these regimes to protests. The second part consists of empirical work and analysis of the results obtained using case-study methods and cross-national comparative analysis.
