The Activity of Local Virtual Communities in Social Networks and the Results of Municipal Elections (Case of Municipal Elections in St. Petersburg in 2019)

This work is devoted to the analysis of local virtual communities in the context of local government elections. The first part examines the world experience of studying social networks as a tool of political influence, examines the characteristic features of the Russian electorate, especially during municipal elections, and also gives a context of elections in St. Petersburg 2019. The second Chapter collects data on the activity of municipal groups in the social network Vkontakte and calculates correlations with the main indicators of elections in General and for some parties. For cases that aroused additional interest, text mining of the content of posts is performed.
