Distribution of Hedging in Political Discourse (based on the material of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton's rhetoric)

The aim of the present paper is to provide an in-depth research of application of hedging in political discourse by studying previous scientific works and analysing the speeches of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The research gives an understanding of the definition of hedging encompassing its various peculiarities that usually create confusion in scientific community. The paper answers the questions: why and when political leaders use hedging. The paper illustrates the difference between pre-election, post-election speeches and debates, which confirms or refutes the purpose of using hedges. The study also aims to reveal the possible gender differences in the use of hedges in political discourse.
