Studies of mortality factors in Russia indicate that people often die due to alcohol addiction, especially men of working age. If at a young age people die for reasons related to drinking alcohol, then life expectancy drops especially significantly. It follows that it is necessary to combat the mortality of the population associated with alcohol. The purpose of this study: to analyze the dynamics of volumes and patterns of alcohol consumption by the population of the Russian Federation depending on the period of the economic cycle. This study shows that in the following years, there were more people who did not drink alcohol for 30 days at the time of the survey than in 2012. The stronger the economic development of the region was in the period of overcoming the crisis (2015), the greater there was a likelihood of alcohol consumption by its population. Gradually, this trend began to decline by 2016 and beyond. During a recession, people consume less alcohol, but this is mainly true for the female sex, and this happens not only due to lower incomes, but also due to the influence of other factors (job availability, marriage, place of residence, alcohol policy, climate, etc. .). We have proved that with a low level of economic development in the region, its residents who consume vodka drink more. However, the general economic conditions did not affect beer consumption.
