This research work reveals the main discourses on the problem of memory in Western philosophy in the XIX-XX centuries. The key definitions of memory in the philosophy of A. Bergson, M. Proust, M. Heidegger, and P. Ricoeur were defined and formulated in a new way. The importance of memory in human activity has been proven. Memory and time are interconnected fragments that are fundamental characteristics of human existence. Experimental psychology has drawbacks because it misses this connection and uses rigorous methods in its analysis, so its conclusions cannot always find answers. The study can be considered as a solid foundation for further interdisciplinary research on the problems of the phenomenon of memory.
