The choice of the language of communication is a task that is often solved by an individual unconsciously, but usually successfully and effectively. Many researchers discuss the question of how this choice is made and what factors motivate it. Despite a large number of works in this area, scientists have not yet come to a consensus, and the topic remains relevant. The key questions for our research are what factors are determining the choice of language resources by inophones, and whether one of the groups of factors, if we consider separately the orientation to the addressee, message or speaker, is prevailing. We also tried to study whether there is a relationship between these factors and language experience. The study was conducted through a questionnaire and a series of interviews with inophones - young people who are the first generation of migrants and have mastered a second language in their teen years. Based on the results of the analysis of questionnaires and narratives, we were able to find out how inophones explain the choice of a particular language in situations when it occurs consciously, and to trace certain patterns of changing the language code during communication.
