This paper discusses the theoretical aspects of the study of political communication through blogs on social networks, approaches to defining the concept of the image of a politician and personified communication in the media, the main trends and changes in political communication through new media, and also draws attention to the features of political online communication in Russia. In the empirical part, the types of self-presentation of the heads of regions on social network "Vkontakte" are represented and depicted through its textual characteristics.
