This paper examines relevant banking business models. Business models play a crucial role in the development and main activities of modern banks. The inevitable economic crisis does not only raise questions about the effectiveness of traditional business models, but also increases the focus on Islamic banking. The purpose of the diploma is to study the concepts, functions, stages of development and the main global trends in changing current banking business models, as well as to analyze the business models of russian banks, including banks that have implemented Islamic products. To achieve this purpose, we studied theoretical and practical materials that define traditional and Islamic business models and their main trends, as well as Bank annual reports. The relevance of this work is defined by the fact that practice shows that in "extreme" conditions, Islamic banks used to demonstrate high stress tolerance. This is the situation that can await us after the pandemic. During a crisis, lower reserves, less reliance on no-deposit financing allowed by Sharia law, and higher capital-to-asset ratios increase the return on shares of Islamic banks. In addition to the foreign practice of Islamic banking, the paper examines the Russian practice, and also defines the necessary conditions for the development of the Islamic business model in Russia.
